摘要：A growth of beech and sycamore maple in substitute tree species forest stands was investigated in summit parts of the Jizerské hory Mts. Young nearby standing substitute tree forest stands of Norway spruce and blue spruce with mean height below 1.6 m were underplanted by beech and sycamore in 1995. Mortality of both coniferous tree species was comparable in the next years, while progressive height growth of Norway spruce more significantly reduced light conditions for underplantings. Both beech and sycamore plantations had high mortality. Beech had higher height growth in blue spruce stand than in Norway spruce stand. There were no significant differences in height growth depending on the distances of beeches from the closest substitute tree. Beech plantations on sites with better light conditions grew straighter than beeches in shade. High mortality and low height growth of sycamore were caused by unfavourable growing conditions and competition effect of substitute tree stands.
