WE WANT GUNS SAY MOURNERS
WAEL AL-AHMEDTHOUSANDS of angry mourners demanded guns from Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat as they marched at the funerals of five men killed by Israeli tanks.
More than 50,000 people jammed streets in the West Bank town of Jenin demanding revenge as the coffins were carried from the local hospital.
The five - including four policemen - died on Friday, bringing the death toll in the 10-week uprising to 308.
Town officials called it a cold-blooded attack and said the policemen were part of a security force trying to prevent attacks on Israeli troops. Israel defended its action, saying the men were acting suspiciously.
A spokesman for the Islamic Hamas group vowed: "We must now respond in the same manner."
At the same time, in a refugee camp near Bethlehem, 25,000 attended the funeral of a 16-year-old boy apparently shot by Israelis as he was trying to rescue an injured boy.
