Burns film is hot stuff in Cannes
SIMON HOUSTONA MOVIE highlighting the complex love life of Robert Burns takes centre stage at the Cannes Film Festival tonight.
Red Rose, made by an independent film maker in the poet's home county of Ayrshire, is the first movie released about Scotland's national bard for more than half a century.
Six years in the making, it centres around Burns and his support for the French revolution and his Republican beliefs.
His penchant for the ladies is also traced through his love for Jean Armour and his affair with aristocrat Maria Riddell.
Ayrshire-based Palm Tree UK, the company behind the film, will add a further tartan flavour to the French Riveira tomorrow night with the premiere of another Scots-made movie, Rain Dogs.
The 18-rated thriller tells the story of an art theft from a Scottish castle.
