What works

Charles Mills

The wonderful world of health can sometimes contain a vast swirl of contradictions. Do this; take that. Go here; stay away from there. Trust your doctor. Trust your herbs. They're wrong. I'm right. This will save you. This will kill you. Go soy. Go dairy. Go crazy!

In my own personal health journey I've discovered an amazing fact. Everything is the right thing to do, and everyone is correct! Both doctors and herbs can bring about amazing feats of healing. You can travel around the world to find relief, and you can uncover a wondrous remedy just down the street. Becoming a lacto-ovovegetarian or choosing to be totally vegetarian can change your life in profound ways. It all depends on you.

You are the secret to your own good health. Your body, your lifestyle, your genetic structure, even the depths of your faith in God, help determine whether something will or won't work for you. This is certainly true in the world of medicine, in which doctors "practice" their craft and scientists "search" for answers. They're constantly reminded that what works wonders for one patient may not even affect another. When taking a particular drug or herb, you might get all the benefits without any of the side effects. For someone else it might be the other way around.

So what's a law-abiding, faith-keeping, more-or-less-clueless person such as you or I to do when we stand facing that flood of health information pouring in on us from all directions? Well, I can tell you what I do. I listen, read, study, consider, and pray. Then I take one more step. I test--not in my body, but in my Bible. I ask myself, "Does this treatment, diet, drug, herb, mental exercise, or spiritual insight fit comfortably with what God reveals to me about myself in Scripture? After all, God created me. He should know what's best."

Then I act with confidence, knowing that my own hesitant journey toward optimum health will be blessed by my heavenly Father because I'm taking full advantage of what He has made available to me. My pantry is filled with the types of foods He planted in the Garden of Eden. Each day I arrange time in the sun, drink lots of fresh water, and keep active. Once a week I spend an entire day worshiping Him. And I read Vibrant Life, just as you do.

So relax. Do what works for you. And while you're traveling on your own journey to optimum health, know that the Creator is right by your side, guiding you each step of the way.

There--don't you feel better already?
