Marines, special ops work together - Security - Marine Corps to work more closely with the Special Operations Command unit of the Army - Brief Article
Tim DyhouseThough not announced until Feb. 26, the Marine Corps and the Army's Special Operations Command signed an agreement Nov. 9 calling for closer training and a new integrated command structure.
Undoubtedly, the announcement was delayed for security reasons because Marines and special ops troops were already working together in Afghanistan before Nov. 9. In late October, Marines deploying a quick reaction force and search-and-rescue aircraft supported an Army Ranger parachute drop at an airfield southwest of Kandahar.
After the agreement was signed, special ops officers deployed with the first Marines to secure the airfield in early December. The agreement dictates that in the future, special ops officers will be included in Marine Expeditionary Units.
