Riveting Rosie - reader forum
Michael DavisI've always loved reading Bruce Vilanch's column, but never before has he zeroed in on my sentiment as he did with "Rallying Around Rosie" [Notes From a Blond, May 14]. When my mom would mention having seen Rosie's show on a given day, I would bait my mom with, "Who did the dyke have on her show today?" Mom would always laugh and say, "Michael, you have no proof that Rosie is gay. That is just wishful thinking."
Of course, neither of us was surprised when Rosie came out. What did surprise me was the irony that in trying not to be "the spokesperson for the gay community," Rosie did more in one TV interview for the rights of gays, parents, and children than most people have done in an entire life of parade marching and flag-waving. Kudos to those people who have dedicated their lives to furthering our cause, but God bless Rosie for following her heart and talking a risk for the sake of humankind. And God bless Bruce for helping us see that while we laugh our collective asses off at the same time.
