Your Letters: How compassion triumphs over bigotry
James McGowan,Bundoran, Co DonegalWHAT a truly heart-warming story in last week's Sunday Mirror about Mick McGoldrick who is now dedicating his life to caring for orphans and the poorest of the poor in Cernavoda, Romania, after his own son, Michael was gunned down by murderous bigots.
One would only expect a father to become consumed with anger and hate for the loyalist killers but not Mick, because his true compassion and courage have not only transformed his life but countless others who desperately need people like him.
To this very day, almost five years on since Mick's son's murder, there is still, sadly, plenty of hatred and sectarian violence in Northern Ireland, a lot of it going on unmentioned. But surely Mick's personal testament of strength and compassion in the face of such evil is a testament to unity and bridge building.
May God continue to give Mick the strength and determination to continue his marvellous work.
