  • 摘要:A major factor impairing worldwide agricultural productivity is salinity, which is believed to affect nearly one-fifth of the world’s irrigated land and causes 107 irrigated hectares to be abandoned each year. In canola, the effect of salt stress on reproduction was examined using plants grown in greenhouse. Structural and functional abnormalities in reproductive organs were observed when plants treated with NaCl solution (EC = 12 dS m-1). Floral primordia, number of flowers, siliques, seeds per siliques and weight of 1000-seed were reduced in stressed plants. SEM studies showed that anthers filled with pollen corpses. During ovule abortion, gametophyte cells became more vacuolated. The resources conserved by reducing plant fertility, thereby, can be shunted into processes that permit plants to acclimate to stressful environmental conditions.
