摘要:The paper presents the results of research into various onomastic phenomena in the language of sport. The author regards the onymy of sport as a specific domain having distinctive typological, cultural and social features. It is significant that some forms of this onymy, at a low level of proprialization, fall in the intersection between proper and common names, whereas others show explicit onomastic ties with various onymic classes. To substantiate these assumptions, the author proposes a classification of the onymy of sport defined broadly in the light of terminology and communication. He distinguishes between five general classes of names: the class of paraonymic lexical units with double status, appellative and proprial (e.g. names of sports, some units of sports terminology); the class of sports anthroponyms (including official and unofficial personal names of athletes, nicknames used in sports communication); the class of sports toponyms (official and unofficial names of places where training and sports competitions take place); the class of sports chrematonyms (names of institutions related to a sport, names of sports clubs and associations, sports commercial names, etc.); the class of deonyms and recycled onyms (transonyms). It is also shown that the names associated with the sports communication are susceptible to social and cultural dynamics: they acquire specific cultural meanings which manifest itself, inter alia , in the nicknames of competitors of various sports.
