摘要：Tito's national policy and personal contribution are considered, in view of a broader historical frame, which includes the period before and after the birth of the country over which he presided. A note is made of various (not always evident), historical processes in the Balkans. A descripton is given of the unitary, federal and confederal forms of Y ugoslavia's integration. Comparison is made between the policies of King Aleksandar and Tito. The importance is shown of the effect of external factors on the preservation of a multinational state. Atten- tion is drawn to the relationship between economy and nationalism in Y ugosla- via and to the political expressions of this tension. Tito's personal part and politi- cal arbitration are evaluated with particular attention. Careful analysis is also made of his political instruments and techniques, and of the achievements and blunders of cosmopolitism, whose introduction to the explosive Balkan region he dictated.
