摘要：Resum Universal Banking (Oxford University Press 1997) has won the, II Societat Catalana d'Economia prize. In his acceptance speech, the author analyses the transformation that universal banks are experiencing because of the changes in the financial system with globalisation of the economy and finances, financial deregulation and the unstopable technological revolution. In the light of experiences in France, Germany, Japan, Spain and the USA, he discusses the future of banks as,financial intermediaries in the different banking systems of the industrialised countries, specialised banking, and the concentration of the banking sector with mergers and takeovers. Finally he brings up the question of' regulation and banking ethics.
