摘要:The National Neisseria Network (NNN),Australia comprises reference laboratories in eachState and Territory that report data on sensitivityto an agreed group of antimicrobial agents for theAustralian Gonococcal Surveillance Programme(AGSP). The antibiotics are penicillin, ceftriaxone, azithromycin and ciprofloxacin. These are currentor potential agents used for the treatment of gonorrhoea.Azithromycin combined with ceftriaxoneis the recommended treatment regimen for gonorrhoeain the majority of Australia. However, thereare substantial geographic differences in susceptibilitypatterns in Australia and in certain remoteregions of the Northern Territory and WesternAustralia gonococcal antimicrobial resistance ratesare low, and an oral treatment regimen comprisingamoxycillin, probenecid and azithromycin isrecommended for the treatment of gonorrhoea.Additional data on other antibiotics are reportedin the AGSP annual report. The AGSP has a program-specific quality assurance process.
