摘要:This is the first collection of essays to focus on the political economy of divided islands, itsuniqueness perhaps due to the fact that there exist only ten of such contested territories worldwide. As Baldacchino explains in the introduction, the fascination for ‘divided islands’ might dependon the ways in which they challenge geo-political imagination. Whereas we simply acceptthat continents are divided and administered by several nation states, “a finite and selfevidentisland geography smoothens the nurturing of a sense of identity that is contiguouswith territory” (p. 3). Thus the very idea that an island could be divided and shared amongcompeting powers appears alien to common-sense logic.
