摘要：Modal verbs are potentially polysemantic. Being among the verbs which make up the constructions with predicateactants, they can combine characteristics both of the dictum verbs and the verbs of propositional attitude. On the onehand, as dictum verbs they fix relations within the proposition between the syntactic subject and the predicate expressedby the infinitive. On the other hand, like the verbs of propositional attitude modal verbs can express the meaning of themodal frame of the sentence.
