摘要:In India, dairying is seen as a popular alternative instrument for achieving social and economic development. Small and marginal landholding farmers, as well as landless labourers, produce the majority of milk in our country, accounting for over 70% of the national milch cattle herd. Furthermore, 78 percent of agricultural land holdings still rely on rain, which is frequently disrupted by drought and floods, resulting in inconsistent and uncertain agricultural revenue for most farmers. These farmers are trapped in a sandwiching vicious debt cycle, confined to subsistence levels of productivity as a result of a lack of financing and credit amenities. The fragmentation of landholdings, among other issues, is deteriorating their situation in terms of feeding and supporting large families solely on agricultural revenue. Another key aspect is that small farmers and landless labourers are more likely to fall prey to moneylenders and natural disasters. Dairying, as a supplemental source of agricultural income, is a lifeline for the majority of these socially marginalised people. In light of this, the current research aims to investigate the socioeconomic impact of dairy cooperative organisations on dairy production.
