摘要：The paper presents the positions of key actors in relation to public participation and information in the regulatory process of genetic engineering. The arguments are analyzed to show the different visions of the role of the public, public interest groups, industry, the public administration, and the scientific community in the social management of technology. The analysis shows that in order to minimize the social conflict which genetic engineering has sparked, there is a need for more direct public participation and information in the decision making process. The paper is based on field work which included research interviews with social actors from the genetic engineering field.
