摘要:This paper analyses the essay “Cartas a Clemencia, sobre la Higiene del bello secso (sic)” by Ramón Hernández Poggio, a work which corroborates the fact that nineteenth century women became the object of scientific or pseudo-scientific publications, and more specifically they became the medical practitioners’ object of study as well as of intervention. Physicians, who as guarantors of medical expertise tried to maintain the bourgeois established order, did not hesitate to use a sanitary control mechanism banning attendance to the theatre, or any musical events, reading, parties and a multitude of activities that keep women apart from their household and their real “mission”, of being mothers and wives.
